Education includes knowledge, proper conduct and technical proficiency, teaching and learning etc. Thus it focuses on the advancement of skills, trades or professions and mental, ethical and aesthetic.
Education is an attempt by a generation of society to transfer its knowledge to the generation below itself. With this idea, education works as an institution, which plays an important role in connecting the individual with the society and maintains the continuity of the culture of the society. The child learns the basic rules, systems, norms and values of the society through education. The child is ready to attach with the society only if he's destined with the history of that exact society.
Education is that the method of developing the inherent potential and temperament of a private. This process socializes him to play the role of an adult in the society and provides the necessary knowledge and skills to the individual to become a member of the society and a responsible citizen. The word education is derived from the suffix 'a' in the root 'Education' of Sanskrit language. 'Education' means to learn and teach. The word 'education' means the act of teaching-learning.
When we see the use of the word education, it is broadly used in two forms, broadly and narrowly. In the broad sense, education is a purposeful social process going on forever in a society by which the innate powers of man are developed, his knowledge and skills are increased and behavior is changed and thus he is made a civilized, cultured and capable citizen. Man gets and makes new experiences moment by moment, which affects his day-to-day behavior. This learning is done informally by various groups, festivals, magazines, Doordarshan etc. These learning-teachings come in a broad and comprehensive form of education. In the narrow sense, education is a purposeful social process in a society at a given time and at certain places (school, college) in a systematic manner, through which the student learns to pass a number of examinations by studying a certain syllabus.
Aim of education
An objective is a preconceived goal that drives an action or motivates a behavior. If the goal is definite and clear, then the person's lamp keeps on going on with enthusiasm till he achieves that goal. As one gets closer to the goal when the person achieves his goal. Achieving this goal is called the achievement of the objective. In a nutshell, purpose is a foreseeable goal, to achieve which a person is active while thinking happily with enthusiasm.
There are different forms of education objectives. Broadly, we are dividing all the objectives of education into the following headings –
1. Specific Purpose
Specific objectives are termed as "unusual objectives". The scope and nature of these objectives are limited. Not only this, they are constructed keeping in mind any special circumstances and special reasons. From this point of view, these objectives are flexible, adaptable and changeable, in other words, the specific objectives of education keep on changing according to the country, time and situation.
2. Universal Purpose
The universal purpose applies equally to mankind. These objectives are meant to develop desirable qualities in the individual. Therefore, their area is not limited to a particular place or country like specific purposes, but the entire human goes. The nature of general objectives is also not limited like specific objectives. Therefore, these objectives are eternal, fixed and unchanging. All the education philosophies of the world have accepted the universal importance of these objectives. Organization of human personality, proper physical and mental development, progress of society, love and non-violence are some of the universal objectives of education which give universal form to education.
3. Personal Purpose
According to the individual litigants, the individual is greater than the society, so the individual purpose of education lays emphasis on the full development of the individual's personal powers. Eminent educationist Sir T.P. Nun has written emphasizing on this purpose – “All the good that comes in the world comes through the independent efforts of individual men and women. The system of education should be based on this truth and education should be given such conditions. should be produced which can lead to the full development of the individual and the individual can give his original contribution to human life.
4. Social Objectives
According to socialists, society is bigger than the individual. Therefore, they lay special emphasis on the social purpose of education. They believe that the individual is a social animal. He cannot develop himself by living separately from the society. Therefore, according to him, a person should develop his personality keeping in mind the needs and ideals of the society.
It becomes clear from the above description that the aims of education are closely related to the life of the individual and the ideals of the society. If we want to create different educational objectives for both the individual and the society, then the needs and ideals of both of us have to be kept in mind.
