MCC: Will Nepal get the US to help? Coalition allies against Prime Minister Deuba

There has been a ruckus in Nepal over US aid. Nepal's Parliament has not yet approved the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) due to internal disputes. The issue has once again heated up with the arrival of MCC Vice-Chairman Fatema Z Sumar in Nepal on Thursday. The tension of the Nepalese Prime Minister has increased because the ruling Nepali Congress is making constant efforts to get it approved, while its coalition partners Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have some objections.

Deuba needs Oli's support

Under the American program Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), the US government will provide assistance of $ 500 million to Nepal for development works. Sher Bahadur Deuba was the Prime Minister of Nepal when this agreement was signed in 2017. Still, the command of the country is in his hands and the reason for his difficulty has become KP Sharma Oli, who recently left the power of Nepal. Deuba needs the support of the main opposition party, the CPN-UML, which is headed by Oli.

Finance Ministry sought a reply with PM MCC

Nepal's Ministry of Finance on Friday sent a letter to the MGC headquarters in Washington DC seeking clarification. The ministry wanted to know whether the agreement is "above the Constitution of Nepal" and whether it "undermines the sovereignty of Nepal". Experts say that the nature of the agreement is to be decided by the recipient and not the giver. The finance ministry is currently headed by Janardan Sharma of the Maoist Centre. His party's stance is very strict towards the American program.

Criticizing this letter, a former diplomat said that we do not know who drafted this letter but it is written in a very bad manner. This letter has completely failed to understand the constitution and sovereignty. Nepali Congress joint general secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat said Prime Minister Deuba was fully aware of the questions raised in the letter. He told the Kathmandu Post that an agreement had been reached between the members of the ruling coalition.

Oli opened the front

Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has opened the front regarding America's Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement. He has sought the views of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-Maoist Center President Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on the MCC agreement. During his tenure, Oli did not approve the US agreement under pressure from China. Addressing an event of UML Kathmandu Metropolitan on Saturday, Oli expressed surprise at Deuba and Prachanda's stand on MCC. Oli expressed outrage that both the leaders were trying to get the MCC passed by cunning. He also said that other leaders of the alliance are also silent on the issue.

China's pet Oli is opposing America because it is a fake America, the real America is in Nepal.
